It has been a month since my internship and I have realized that my plan to blog weekly or bi-weekly about my experience did not work out. There was simply no time to sit down to share what has been going on in my internship. I have had an amazing experience at Sunningdale. The staff and students have been welcoming and helpful. There have been some ups and downs, but it has instilled in me my passion to teach.
My class was full of a variety of personalities and they all felt the need to share their voice. This caused the class to get a little hectic, but it was never a dull moment. We tried many things as a class like Math Art by creating nets and then finding the surface area. The image on the left is what one of my students created. She created the nets for her objects and calculated the surface area of each object that she created. The image on the right is what a group of students created for their Math Art.

I had the pleasure of being able to help coach the "A" Girls volleyball team. Our team consisted of 11 dedicated girls who woke up twice a week for 7am practices before school. They were full of energy and a blast to work with. The girls showed their love of volleyball and competition throughout the season. They ended the regular season in first place allowing us to play in the final game. However, we were unable to shake our nerves and received second for the city.
I found that helping coach allowed me to get to know the girls in my class better and develop a relationship with them. It also allowed me to meet students in other classes and not just my 25 students.

Many of the students in my class are able to come up with speeches quickly and are able to get their ideas and opinions across. In Social Studies with my co-op, the Grade 7 and 8's debated where an incinerator should go in a community to demonstrate power and authority. They were so interested in the activity that some of their debating techniques turned into screaming matches, but they were able to refocus to allow their "opponents" to share their ideas and information. This was really entertaining to watch how even in their small groups there was debating and a power battle.
One of the assignments that I was in charge of was a historical fiction writing piece. Our class was able to go to Providence Place in Moose Jaw. There each of our students were paired up with one of the residents. The Grade 7 and 8's asked them questions about their lives to get to know their partners a little more. Armed with their information, the students were able to create a story around an event in history or in the past about their partners. Many had their residents become the heroes in their stories by taking an event and having them prevent it or save lives. Others had their residents in school and wrote about how they thought they acted in school. Some even had their partners go to space.
