This past week was the first and only full week of our placement. I thought that I would be super tired and not functioning by the end of the day on Friday, but I was not. The week seemed to fly by and I cannot believe that we only have three teaching days left.
As my placement continued this week, I noticed that a majority of my professional targets focused on classroom management. This was mostly because the students were working on their short stories, research for their heritage fair, working in small groups or we were in the gym. I am finding that my teacher voice and even facial expressions are starting to come through. My facial expression came out during a Phys. Ed. class where I asked the students to leave their equipment in their corners and two boys didn't listen so I told them again. One put the mat down the other stood there and I could feel myself giving him the "really?" look. I still need some work on bringing my volume up when I am instructing but that will come as I am a quiet person to begin with.
I have had a lot of written feedback from my co-operating teacher that has helped me to better my lessons for the next day. She provides suggestions that allow me to think about other ways that I could have approached the lesson, or ways in which I could enrich the lesson that I had taught.
This experience has flown by and I cannot believe that it is the start of our last week teaching and there are only three days this week.
